Pastoral Care

The Pastoral Care approach at St Mark’s College draws its inspiration and guiding principles from the charisms of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan and the Salesians of Don Bosco who strived to see God in all things and to reach out to those in need.

Wellbeing is at the core of all positive learning outcomes

St Mark’s provides an environment which fosters the growth of the whole person. Our Pastoral Care Program aims to help our students:

At Benedict Campus, the “You Can Do It” and Learning Assets as part of our Inquiry Based Learning work hand-in-hand for students wellbeing.

You Can Do It

“You Can Do It!” is a program used at St Mark’s from Reception to Year 6 to develop our students’ wellbeing. It involves learning about and putting into action the ‘5 Keys to Success and Happiness’.

The 5 keys are; Confidence (academic and social), Persistence, Organisation, Getting Along and Emotional Resilience. “You Can Do It!” forms the basis for our Pastoral Care and Behaviour Management Programs.

Pastoral Care also includes the work of the Pastoral Care Team and Student Counsellor providing counselling and support on specific emotional and behavioural issues that may impact on a student’s learning and relationships.

Collaboration and communication with families is critical to overall student wellbeing.

Learning Assets

With a strong focus on inquiry based learning, we encourage our students to be:

  • Researchers - Who pose questions, gather information, think critically and record findings
  • Thinkers - who wonder, are open-minded, are persistent and problem solve
  • Self-Managers - Who are confident, are resilient, set goals and make positive choices
  • Communicators - Who are responsive, listen, use correct body language and speak clearly
  • Collaborators - Who take turns, share, show kindness and are respectful
