Student Pathways

At St Mark’s College, we aim to offer meaningful pathways for every student. Our students are prepared for life after school through a variety of opportunities including:

School Based Apprenticeships

Over the years, many of our senior students have begun a School Based Apprenticeship with local businesses while at school. This allows them to complete their schooling whilst being employed and working towards a tertiary qualification.

St Mark’s College is proud to have seen students gain school based apprenticeships with local employers and the College is supportive of all students choosing this pathway.

It is the responsibility of the student to instigate or apply for an apprenticeship with the employer. Students are expected to complete their school work as required whilst meeting the expectations of the employer.

For information about School Based Apprenticeships contact our VET Coordinator on 8633 8800.

“The school has been a great help assisting me to work towards gaining a full-time apprenticeship.”

University

At St Mark’s College, many of our Year 12 students start university studies the year after finishing school. The College is committed to supporting students in their pathway from school to university, and pursuing their career goals through tertiary study. Our Bosco Centre provides an independent learning space for our Year 12 students, encouraging the transition between school and university. Equipped with modern classrooms, independent study areas, kitchen facilities and a student lounge, the centre was designed to prepare students for further studies after school.

Our students are also provided with regular information about university pathways by the Year 12 Coordinator, including:

  • Group presentations explaining university application processes, ATAR’s and Bonus Points,
  • Individual support for students seeking guidance with course selection and application,
  • Promotion of University Open Days, scholarships and holiday study courses,
  • Accommodation options while studying in Adelaide.

For information email our Year 12 Coordinator or visit Useful Links to access websites for universities, boarding college’s and scholarships that are available.

“The College guided and supported me in my academic endeavour, so that I felt prepared and equipped with the important knowledge and skills needed to begin my Psychology Degree at University.”

Patrick Williams, Class of 2016

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Vocational Education and Training (VET) is an important educational pathway at St Mark’s. VET subjects help students to make the transition from school into the workforce. Students are more work ready and have a chance to explore one or more possible future career pathways. VET provides students with the opportunity to develop skills in a range of vocational areas without restricting future opportunities which may include a pathway to university.

We are committed to providing these pathway opportunities for our students. St Mark’s offers the opportunity to access many courses including:

  • Aged Care
  • Automotive
  • Building and Construction
  • Business and IT
  • Children’s Services
  • Electrotechnology
  • Engineering
  • Food and Hospitality
  • Hairdressing and Beauty
  • Retail
  • Rural Operations and Agriculture
  • Sport and Recreation

VET links schools, TAFE, private providers and industry through a process of dual accreditation – approved courses or modules are acknowledged by SACE as well as by TAFE and industry. Students who succeed in such courses will receive credit for nationally accredited units of competency.

For more information about VET at St Mark's College, please contact our VET Coordinator on 8633 8800.

“Studying at TAFE SA has really helped me get out of my comfort zone and given me skills that I can use for employment after school.”
